What is a Chemical Property, Chemical Substance, Chemical Element and Cas?

A chemical property is a characteristic or behavior of a substance that may be observed when it undergoes a chemical change or reaction. Chemical properties are seen either during or following a reaction since the arrangement of atoms within a sample must be disrupted for the property to be investigated. This is different from a physical property, which is a characteristic that may be observed and measured without changing the chemical identity of a specimen. A chemical substance can be specified as any material with a definite chemical make-up. A chemical material can either be a pure chemical element or a pure chemical compound. Chemical substances may include both pure substances and mixtures with a defined composition or manufacturing process. An element is a chemical substance made up of a particular kind of atom and cannot be broken down or transformed by a chemical reaction into a different element, though it can be changed in form or substance into another element through a nuclear reaction. This is so, because all of the atoms in a sample of an element have the same number of protons, though they may be different isotopes, with differing numbers of neutrons. CAS Numbers are up to 10 digits long using the format xxxx-yy-z. They are assigned to a compound as the CAS registers a new compound. The number has no significance to the chemistry, structure or chemical nature of the molecule. The CAS Number of a compound is a useful way to identify a chemical over its name.
